Good evening – from Homer, AK – Seward is a very pretty area – the Kenai Fjords – one word – WOW!!! Very beautiful and breath taking – we saw porpoise, a couple of whales, birds, mountain goats and up and close to a calving glacier – what a sight/sound when the ice crashes down. The drive to Homer was enjoyable – although we were all tired.
Lodging in Homer is very nice – the view is incredible from the home – we are directly above the Kachemak Bay – double WOW!!!
The boys left the home at 5:45 AM this morning – we fished with Captain B’s on board the Ashtihan – a 44-foot Jersey Crusier with twin diesel engines. Had 2 fellows on board with us from Michigan. Brian took us out to Deep Water almost 2 hours out from Homer – Hickman just commented to Spark that we went to Seattle. We fished over a mountain shelf in about 300 feet of water. Holy Crap – hold on to the pole – when the line hit close to the bottom –Fish On - we all hooked up at the same time and had our Halibut in about 45 minutes - biggest was around 30 pounds – we each kept 2 (limit) and released one each – was hoping for a Derby Winner – 350 + pounds. These are the best eating fish.
Brian then took us to fish for Rock Fish – Chrome had a nap – NO Ding Dongs for Hickman today – we limited on Rock Fish – DJ caught 3 Baby Ling Cod that we could not keep and claims a keeper that made a fatal mistake following a Rock Fish to the boat.
Tonight we are dining at the house – half a beef and King Crab – not sure if the neighborhood has been invited or not by the looks of the food. We can’t find JB – she went to the garbage can and has not come back – the sign on the car port – “Beware of Yogi” – or maybe the Iceman followed us to Homer – two big Glaciers across the bay – since she did win the lottery.
Forecast calls for high winds tomorrow – not sure what the day holds yet – Bufford and I would like to do a Salmon/Halibut Combo – but the Silvers seem to be in the rivers and it is 90 minutes up to Kenai River Float Trip - for a 6 AM Departure on a Silver/Bow trip – dang I wish it was 7:30. Tides in – after dinner headed to the Spit to cast a few.
Only two days left – has really gone by fast.
